Join Us for Rose City Rollers’ Juniors Derby Discovery Day!
Are you curious about roller derby? Want to see if it’s the right fit for your future skater? Join us at Juniors Derby Discovery Day, a free event designed to introduce parents and youth skaters to the exciting world of roller derby and the Rose City Rollers Juniors program!
What to Expect:
This event has 3 components:
- WATCH: 2 free entries to a live juniors roller derby game on 11/24.
- LEARN: Learn about our Junior Program and our league.
- TRY: An opportunity for your skater to gear up and receive their first hour of roller skating instruction!
Note: Game attendance and skating are optional, but we highly recommend participating in both for the full experience.
Event Schedule:
- 1:30 PM – Doors open for the Rosebuds (ages 13-17) game.
- 2:00 - 3:30 PM – Game time! Cheer on the skaters in action.
- 3:45 PM - 5:30 PM – Juniors gear up and their adult companions can learn about Rose City Roller's Junior program.
The schedule above is approximate. After the game we'll gather in a designated area and talk about the junior program and then gear up. Games can end earlier or later depending upon time outs and other events that are hard to plan for.
Prefer to watch the younger skaters?
You’re welcome to attend the Rose Petals (ages 7-12) game instead! Doors open at 11:30 AM with the game starting at 12:00 PM. Please note there will be a 2+ hour gap between the end of the Rose Petals game and the orientation. You can indicate your preferred game on the registration form.
Who Is This Event For?
Ages & Skill
This event is perfect for youth ages 7-17 who are ready to try standing on skates without assistance. Our track is free from railings, and we do not use skater aids (like the walkers you may see at some rinks). If your skater is up for a challenge, this is the place to be!
If your skater falls in love with derby, we’ll help you with membership sign-up for Rose City Rollers right on the spot!
Gender
The Rose City Rollers mission is to serve women, girls, and gender-expansive individuals who want to play the team sport of roller derby, connect with an inclusive community, and realize their power both on skates and off.
Cisgender males (as well as those that identify with the gender statement above) can find a place in our youth officiating program. If your youth is interested in officiating, they are welcome to participate in this event. While watching the game, keep an eye out for the on-skates officials (referees) in striped uniforms and off-skates officials (usually wearing black) tracking stats.
Please note: This event is not open to current RCR members.
What to Bring:
- Skates, Pads, Helmet – Bring your own if you have them, but we’re happy to lend gear if needed.
- Mouthguard – A mouthguard is required. If you have one, bring it along! If not, we’ll provide a non-moldable one for free.
- Socks – Socks make skates more comfortable!
- Water Bottle – Stay hydrated!
There will be plenty of time to grab your gear and water bottle after the game before orientation.
What We Provide:
- All the necessary gear (including mouthguards) if needed.
We can’t wait to welcome you to The Hangar for an exciting introduction to roller derby. See you there!
