Welcome to Rose City Rollers Intro to Derby. We are so glad you are here and we are so excited to bring in new members!

In this series, you will skate for 2 hours a week for 4 weeks and learn basic skating skills with a roller derby flair. At the end of the 4 weeks, you will be invited to become a full member of RCR** and attend our larger format practices.

**Please note: Participants will be able to onboard with the league at our next orientation, if they so choose, on January 2nd.

ASL interpretation will be provided for this series.

Who is this program for?

Skaters who are:

    • 18+ years old
    • Able to stand on skates unassisted
    • Get up from a fall without help
    • Skaters who are fully vaccinated

The skills covered include standing and falling, stopping, and crossovers. More advanced skaters will learn backwards skating, lateral movement, and transitions (changing from forwards to backwards skating while rolling). While these are basic skating skills, they are taught through a roller derby lens and layered with light pack drills.

When: Sundays, 8 to 10 am (11/26, 12/3, 12/10 and 12/17)

Where: The Hangar @ Oaks Park

How much: $150

What you'll need:

  • Skates, Pads, HelmetDon't have your own? No sweat! Our gear lending library has you covered and loaners are included in your reservation for the program - just make sure to fill out your gear section of the registration.  Have your own? Even better! You'll need a low boot. High boot or in-line skates won't work. Helmet should be rated for multi-impact. A bike helmet is not suitable for derby.
  • Mouthguard - Sisu is our preferred brand because it can be remolded, We offer them for $20. We also have a non-moldable kind for $5. *SISU mouthguards will need to be picked up before the series starts, more info to come.
  • Water bottle - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
  • Snacks - bring a small snack that will help give you energy. Protein bars are great.

Celebrate!

We'll celebrate the end of the session with a party! That's right, we will offer food and fun. What a great chance to meet the cohort off-skates and celebrate your accomplishments. The party will be on the last day of the session from 10am-11am with FREE baked goods and mimosas!

We look forward to seeing you on the track!
