Intro to Junior Derby - 4 Week Series

Welcome to Rose City Rollers Intro to Junior Derby. We are so glad you are here and thank you for your patience as we learn new ways to bring in new members.

In this series, you will skate for 1.5 hours a week for 4 weeks and learn basic derby skills. There is no contact in this stage of your derby journey. At the end of the 4 weeks, you will be **invited to become a full member of RCR and attend our larger format practices.

**Please note: Participants will be able to onboard with the league at our next orientation, if they so choose, at our next scheduled orientation January 5th after the Holidays.

While we would love to open this up to anyone interested, COVID restrictions say otherwise.

Who is this program for?

  • Skaters who are:
    • Able to stand on skates unassisted.
    • Get up from a fall without help.
  • Skaters able to wear a mask the entire time.

*Please note this series is open to mixed ages of 7-18 year olds. As vaccinations are not available to individuals under 12, there will be unvaccinated skaters attending these practices.*

At the end of the 4 weeks, you'll have a better understanding of what derby and RCR are all about.

Celebrate!

We'll celebrate the end of the session with a party! That's right, we will offer food and fun. What a great chance to meet the cohort off-skates and celebrate your accomplishments. The party will be on the last day of the session from 3-4p with FREE Pizza from our sponsor Sizzle Pie!

When: Sundays, 4 to 6 pm (11/7, 11/14, 11/21 and 12/5)

Where: The Hangar @ Oaks Park

How much: $150

What you'll need:

  • Skates, Pads, HelmetDon't have your own? No sweat! Our gear lending library has you covered and loaners are included in your reservation for the program - just make sure to fill out your gear section of the registration.  Have your own? Even better! You'll need a low boot (like the ones pictured above. High boot or in-line skates won't work. Helmet should be rated for multi-impact. A bike helmet is not suitable for derby.
  • Mouthguard - Sisu is our preferred brand because it can be remolded. We offer them for $20. We also have a non-moldable kind for $5.
  • Water bottle - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.
  • Snacks - bring a small snack that will help give you energy. Protein bars are great.

We look forward to seeing you on the track!
